Question 1

How do I know if my garage door spring is broken?

Accepted Answer

A broken garage door spring can cause several noticeable problems. Your garage door may suddenly become very heavy, refuse to open, or fail to lift even though the opener is running. You may also hear a loud bang from the garage or see a visible gap in the spring. If you're unsure whether the spring is broken, a garage door professional can inspect the spring system and identify the problem.

Question 2

Can I open my garage door if the spring is broken?

Accepted Answer

A garage door with a broken spring can be extremely heavy and difficult to operate safely. Attempting to lift the door manually or continue operating it with a damaged spring can create additional problems. If you suspect a broken spring, it's best to have the door and spring system inspected by a qualified garage door professional.

Question 3

How long does garage door spring replacement take?

Accepted Answer

The time required depends on the type of spring, garage door, and condition of the door and hardware. Many straightforward spring replacement services can be completed in approximately 45-90 minutes, but the actual time can vary depending on the repair.

Question 4

How much does garage door spring replacement cost?

Accepted Answer

The cost of replacing a garage door spring depends on the type and size of the spring, the garage door system, and any additional components that may need attention. Davis Door Service can inspect the problem and explain the repair options and pricing before work begins. Typically $275 - $460 total.

Question 5

Why won't my garage door open?

Accepted Answer

A garage door that won't open can have several possible causes, including a broken spring, damaged cable, failed opener, problem with the tracks or rollers, or another mechanical issue. A proper inspection can determine what is preventing the door from operating normally.

Question 6

Why is my garage door opener running but the door won't open?

Accepted Answer

If the opener is running but the garage door isn't lifting, the problem may be related to a broken spring, disconnected or damaged components, or the opener itself. Because garage door systems are under significant mechanical tension, the door should be inspected before attempting a repair.

Question 7
